What is 5-HTP?

5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is a compound produced in the body from the amino acid tryptophan. It is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and the hormone melatonin. 5-HTP is manufactured from the seeds of an African plant, Griffonia simplicifolia. It is often used as a supplement to boost serotonin levels. The brain uses serotonin to regulate mood, appetite and other important functions. Unfortunately, 5-HTP is not found in foods we eat.

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that your body naturally produces. Your body uses it to produce serotonin, a chemical messenger that sends signals between your nerve cells. Low serotonin levels are associated with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, weight gain and other health problems. 5-HTP supplements have become popular because it is thought that providing the body with 5-HTP in pill form can boost the body’s serotonin levels, similar to the antidepressants that are thought to increase the amount of serotonin available to the brain.

INGREDIENTS: Bulking agents (cellulose, dicalcium phosphate), 5-Hydroxytryptophan, pyridoxine hydrochloride, anti-caking agents (magnesium salts of fatty acids, silicon dioxide).

SUGGESTED USE: Take 1 tablet daily. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. This product is not a substitute for food.
